About Me

My name is Stuart, and I am a professional Integrative and certified EMDR therapist in Belfast. When it comes to Integrative Counselling or EMDR Therapy approaches for anxiety or trauma, there’s always more than one aspect that needs to be considered for a successful treatment.

I understand that sometimes it might be challenging and overwhelming to cope with depression, grief, anxiety or trauma. As a certified Therapist and Counsellor in Belfast, I offer a professional and tailored approach to Integrative counselling and EMDR therapy sessions. My services are private, confidential and professional, and my sessions take place in my office in East Belfast. I also offer the option of therapy sessions online via zoom. Furthermore, I help with Mindfulness meditation practices that aim to help the individual improve all aspects of their whole-person health.

My foundational background includes studies in Person-centred therapy (Queens University, Belfast); experience in aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and specialist training in Eye Movement De-sensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I adapt my professional counselling approach to work effectively with your unique life circumstances, which can vary from anxiety and stress to trauma, grief or PTSD.

While previously working in construction engineering, it became apparent that my skill set was much more suited to working with people as opposed to something concrete! Therefore, I took the opportunity to re-train as a professional Counsellor and qualify for helping people with trauma or anxiety via Integrative and EMDR therapy approaches.

Since re-training I have also completed my Masters degree here, in Belfast, to further develop my knowledge and understanding in professional counselling and have gained further depth of understanding through completing my full accreditation with the British Association and Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

As an Accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy), I am a certified professional counsellor and EMDR therapist dedicated to working within their Framework for Ethical Practice. That means I commit to ensuring that clients are kept safe during my counselling therapy sessions and strive to assist them in reaching realistic goals within therapy. In line with the requirements of the BACP, I maintain regular supervision and take part in continual professional development (CPD) in order to provide an up-to-date, efficient client experience with my professional counselling.

My Integrative counselling approaches aim to help the individual confront and acknowledge the source of the anxiety or depression and take a brave step towards resolving the issue. With my professional experience and knowledge in integrative therapy and EMDR, I can provide counselling, guidance and support based on the individual’s needs and offer efficient approaches via my therapy sessions, held in my office in Belfast.

Even though a face-to-face therapy session is always the preferable approach to Integrative counselling, I can also offer professional online sessions as well, due to the circumstances at this moment in time.

Testimonials

"I first got in touch about therapy when I was at a very low point in my life, and knew I needed help but was very nervous about what that would involve. From the very start Stuart made me feel completely comfortable, he was very easy to talk to and a perfect balance of professional but still friendly and caring. The therapy worked at my pace and has helped me to work through deep rooted issues, manage my mental health, have better relationships with others and generally have a much better quality of life."

"Stuart offered a safe, structured and empathetic space in which to discuss a difficult life experience. At times, we all need an impartial person in order to address and reflect on the challenges of life. Stuart is highly professional and was a great support during this time."
